Simone Healthcare Development Delivers “Bedless Hospital” as Montefiore Opens One of Region’s Largest Ambulatory Surgery Centers
Joseph Simone, President of Simone Development Companies, joined with Montefiore Health System for the grand opening of Montefiore’s new Ambulatory Surgery Center at Simone’s Hutchinson Metro Center in the Bronx. The 12-story, 280,000 square-foot multi-specialty care center developed by Simone Healthcare Development offers New Yorkers the latest in ambulatory medicine. It is one of the largest ambulatory surgery centers in the New York metropolitan region.
“This is a great day for the future of healthcare. This is a major milestone, marking the opening of a revolutionary, first-of-its kind medical facility,” said Mr. Simone. “We are honored to partner on this project with a visionary organization like Montefiore, which delivers world-class treatments through multi-disciplinary teams right here in the Bronx.”
The building was specifically designed to provide a healing environment and give patients a better experience, offering an array of services in one, convenient location: primary and specialty care visits, diagnostic imaging, surgery, and even a full-service pharmacy. The campus’s layout provides space for interdisciplinary approaches to care – with teams of doctors and nurses located on the same floor, allowing for stronger, easier collaborations and referrals.
“Medical advances are allowing procedures traditionally performed in hospitals to be done on an ambulatory basis – with better results for patients. The new campus reflects this evolution in the delivery of healthcare, offering new space for multidisciplinary approaches to care and integrating technology that allows Montefiore to provide necessary treatments without the need for hospitalization,” said Mr. Simone.
The state-of-the-art building includes an ambulatory surgery center, featuring 12 operating rooms and four procedure rooms; an advanced imaging center; onsite laboratory services and pharmacy; as well as new primary and specialty care practices

Joe Simone, President of Simone Development Companies, joined with local officials and community leaders to mark the grand opening of Simone’s new Throggs Neck Shopping Center in the Ferry Point section of The Bronx.

“The new Throggs Neck Shopping Center is a prime example of our dedication to repurposing vacant and under-utilized commercial property in the New York metropolitan area. We acquired this site in 2011. The property had been used as a Postal Service equipment transfer station for many years and had been closed since 2010. What was once a vacant property is now a thriving retail center creating jobs and providing local residents with national brand name retailers and restaurants including Target, TJ Maxx, Famous Footwear, Sleepy’s, Petco, Skechers, Starbucks. and Applebee’s, to name few,” Mr. Simone said.
